No Disqualification Match: Liv Morgan vs. Sonya Deville

The weeks-long feud between Liv Morgan and Sonya Deville, which saw the former SmackDown Women’s Champion descend to extremes, concluded Friday night with a No Disqualification match.

A hard-hitting match centered around Morgan’s escalating aggression, it saw the contestants trade control of the fight, with Deville seemingly winning the match following a devastating powerbomb on steel chairs.

The resilient Morgan fought through the pain, fought from below, and claimed victory with ObLIVion.

A good match with impressive weaponry, it highlighted the star Morgan has become and proved that Deville is still a massively underutilized talent whose place of prominence should not be questioned after his great run as a heel authority figure a year ago.

Ricochet against LA Knight

LA Knight made his match with Ricochet personal early, targeting his opponent’s girlfriend, ring announcer Samantha Irvin before the bell. Ricochet was the exception and led the fight against former male model Maximum.

Knight turned things around before the break and worked on Ricochet, unloading his arsenal on The One and Only. The babyface absorbed everything thrown at him and looked like he was on his way to a late victory as he scaled the ropes.

The heel escaped the high-flying onslaught, reversed a rollup, and claimed the tainted victory via a handful of tights and ropes.

Take two really good wrestlers, put them in the ring together and a few minutes to work with and the result will be a quality match. It felt more like the first chapter of a rivalry than just a game to have one, which bodes well for both men.

It’s been a while since Ricochet has been involved in an actual program, while Knight working with someone of his caliber is a great way to introduce the charismatic heel to SmackDown audiences.

    More of this, please.

Backstage, a tormented Bray Wyatt objected to being interrupted by a stagehand and threatened him with violence.

Back in the ring, the undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos did a promo on defending their title against Butch and Ridge Holland of the Brawling Brutes on Saturday at Crown Jewel.

New Day’s Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods interrupted and then called, stating their intention to fight for gold next. The Brutes attacked out of nowhere and New Day came out. The arrival of Sami Zayn and Solo Sikoa gave the heels the lead as a beatdown ensued.

Despite a comeback attempt from Butch, Sikoa put an exclamation mark on the segment, introducing him with the Spinning Solo.

This was a smartly constructed segment in that it gave fans a glimpse of things to come after Crown Jewel, showcased Butch’s tenacity and Sikoa’s ferocity as the indestructible force he has.

Wyatt’s stuff was great but, as has been the case since his return, it was more about planting the seeds for the inevitable reveal of what this incarnation of Wyatt looks like.

Natalya vs. Shayna Baszler

5 out of 7

SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey accompanied Shayna Baszler to the squared circle for her match with Natalya.

Baszler, rediscovering the killer instinct that Rousey demanded of her a few weeks ago, ripped the queen of harts en route to a submission win.

This was a great reintroduction for the known and beloved NXT brand Baszler fans. She stomped on Natalya’s arm, manipulated her joints and choked her, while an approving Rousey watched from the ring.

It was exactly what was needed and Baszler will benefit exponentially after two years of mediocrity on the main roster, thanks to a sub-par booking.

After the commercial break, Braun Strowman knocked down five improvement stars down the aisle, then presented MVP with a Powerslam in a final message to Omos before their colossal clash.

It was fine for what it was, but barely a strong enough segment to spark interest in a game that only show fans will enjoy.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Rey Mystero vs. GUNTHER

7 out of 7

The highly publicized match between No. 1 contender Rey Mysterio and Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER headlined Friday’s show.

The Ring General dominated the competition early on, crushing the future Hall of Famer with their size and power advantages. The pesky Mysterio teased a comeback several times but the champion cut it and kept working it.

In the end, the timekeeper mounted that comeback and came on seconds after dethroning the Austrian. Instead, GUNTHER was able to thwart his comeback attempt and deliver a lasso clothesline for the win.

It was a fantastic match that further proved just how great the champion is in the ring while reaffirming Mysterio’s greatness. At 47, he has better matches than wrestlers half his age and low-key entering his name in contention for GOAT status.

These two had amazing chemistry in the ring and a rematch or two wouldn’t be a bad thing. For now, GUNTHER has continued his reign of dominance, asking the question: who will be strong enough to finally take the title?
