The Predator the franchise returns with a new movie Prey this summer, which takes us 300 years in the past. So what kind of Predator are we dealing with here, you might be wondering?
Director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) explains in a new chat.
Trachtenberg told ComicBook.com, “I think our Predator in my mind, not only does it exist, you know, 300 years before, but I think in terms of sci-fi movies, time moves very slowly. If the way star wars functions or even star trek, you know, it’s like 300 years. The ships are suddenly not so different.
“But I think this guy may be from another hemisphere of the planet and a bit of a different race,” he adds. “So even her look is a bit new, it’s familiar, but new. So I’m thrilled that people, even hardcore fans, are really seeing something they’ve never seen before..”
20th Century Studios will bring Prey exclusively to Hulu on 5 August.

From 20th Century Studios, the return of Predator franchise is run by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane), and it is positioned as a prequel to the original that will tell the story of the Predator’s first trip to our planet. Amber Middle of Thunder (“Legion”) stars a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior.
Located in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She was raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters that roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks and ultimately confronts turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.
Prey is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, written by Patrick Aaison (“Jack Ryan”, “Treadstone”), and produced by John Davis (“Jungle Cruise”, “The Predator”) and Jhane Myers (“Monsters of God”), with Lawrence Gordon (“Watchmen”), Marty Ewing ( “It: Chapter Two”), James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas and Marc Toberoff (“Fantasy Island”) as executive producers.
The filmmakers are committed to creating a film that offers an accurate portrayal of the Comanche people and brings a level of authenticity that rings true to its indigenous peoples. Myers, an acclaimed filmmaker, Sundance Fellow and member of the Comanche Nation itself, is known for her care and dedication to films surrounding the Comanche and Blackfeet Nations and her passion for honoring the heritage of Indigenous communities. As a result, the film features a cast made up almost entirely of Indigenous and First Nations talent, including newcomer Amber Midthunder (“The Ice Road,” “Roswell, New Mexico”). Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp (“Sooyii”), Michelle Muguet (“The Journey Home”), Julian black antelope (“Tribal”).
