Moments after Johnny Depp and Amber Heard tied the knot, he said, “We’re married now.” I can punch her in the face and nobody can do anything about it,’ testifies Heard’s ex-friend

  • Amber Heard’s former friend says Johnny Depp made a comment about punching him in the face.
  • iO Tillett Wright said Tuesday that the actor made the comments right after the couple got married.
  • Tillett Wright said he was sometimes called in to help mediate intense fights between the pair.

Immediately after Johnny Depp and Amber Heard said “I do” at their 2015 Bahamas wedding, Depp commented on the physical assault of his new bride, according to one of Heard’s former friends who served as witness at the ceremony.

“I was walking with Johnny and congratulating him on his success,” iO Tillett Wright told iO Tuesday. “And [Depp] said: ‘We are married now. I can punch her in the face and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.'”

Tillett Wright, who said her friendship with Heard ended about a year ago, made the comments in pre-recorded testimony aired this week in a Virginia court in Depp’s libel lawsuit against her estranged ex. woman.

At the center of the case is Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she discusses her alleged experience as a survivor of domestic and sexual abuse and the vitriol she says she received after speaking out about it publicly. . The piece did not directly name Depp.

Depp accused Heard of ruining her reputation and career by insinuating in the op-ed that he abused her. A lawyer for the actor said in opening statements that the publication was “falsely and unfairly labeling Mr. Depp a bad guy.” Heard has denied Depp’s defamation allegations and says in a $100 million counterclaim that he repeatedly violently assaulted her before and during their marriage, which ended in divorce in 2016. Depp has denied the allegations.

Tillett Wright’s testimony was played for the jury after Heard’s time on the stand, which lasted four days, ended. In the recording, Tillett Wright said his friendship with Heard began in 2011. He then hit it off with Heard’s then-boyfriend Depp in 2013 and even lived in one of Depp’s homes for nearly one year.

Heard’s former friend said he was sometimes called in to help mediate intense fights between the couple and testified that Depp would become “misogynistic and cruel” under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. Tillett Wright described several verbal fights he witnessed between Heard and Depp, but said he never saw either of them become physically violent with each other.

According to Tillett Wright, Depp told her he had experienced jealousy and “rage activity” in previous relationships with Winona Ryder, Kate Moss and Vanessa Paradis.

Tillett Wright also said he had “a lot of talk” with Depp about his fights with Heard and said the actor confided in him about his childhood and his rocky relationship with his mother.

“[Depp referred to [his mom] a lot like a female dog and a cat,” Tillett Wright said, and said Depp often compared his mother and Heard.

“He said at one point something like ‘I already have a mother who is a bitch to me. I don’t need another in my life,” Tillett Wright said.

Heard and Depp were often cruel to each other during their outbursts, Tillett Wright said.

“She called him old and he called her ugly and talentless soon enough and then they get really ugly with each other,” he said.

On the day of Heard and Depp’s wedding, Tillett Wright, who helped photograph the nuptials, said he had no recollection of Depp drinking before the ceremony and his alleged comment about punching Heard.
