Jennifer Lawrence played her in the 2015 movie “Joy,” but now is your best chance to live like the real Joy Mangano.
Mangano, the 66-year-old inventor who is best known as the mastermind behind the self-twisting Miracle Mop – and, of course, for inspiring that film, for which Lawrence received an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win — has listed about a 22,000-square-foot estate on Long Island for $20 million, its listing broker told the Post.
The Wall Street Journal broke the news of the listing, which is in the hamlet of St. James on the north shore of Long Island, about halfway between New York and the Hamptons. If it sold for that asking price, the estate would set a record in St. James.
The property, named Swan Manor, has three structures and spans over 9 acres with views of the Long Island Sound. The images in the listing show a stately residence set behind gates — with features like a two-story great room, two-story kitchen and indoor pool — that has obviously been well-maintained during Mangano’s ownership.
“Swan Manor is the most amenity-focused all-inclusive resort I’ve ever seen on Long Island’s Gold Coast,” said Shawn Elliott, of Nest Seekers International – who shares the listing with his son and business partner, Zach Elliott – at the Post. “The house is perfect for a large family as it has several houses on the property. It would also be great as a corporate retreat with its proximity to New York. The feeling when you enter this home is a feeling of love and joy, no pun intended, it’s one of a kind.
Mangano, who told the Journal that she’s sold more than $3 billion worth of TV products through her star status on QVC and the Home Shopping Network, also told the outlet that she still has dreamed of living in a “big mansion” – and she even spent “millions and millions” of dollars to renovate this one, which dates back to 1917. She bought it for $1.35 million in 2000, or approximately $2.31 million after adjusting for inflation.
“I’m a meticulously detailed person,” Mangano told the Journal. “Everything must be perfect around me.”
This shows. The indoor pool pavilion also includes a hot tub, large gym and sauna. Downstairs, the finished basement features a wine cellar and tasting room. The land also has a guest house with no less than three bedrooms, additional staff accommodation and a four-car garage. The grounds also feature a tennis court, pergola, patios and walkways in imported Italian porcelain and a stone garden waterfall, the ad notes. Additional images show a formal dining room with a fireplace, vaulted and wood-beamed ceilings, and even space for a home office. There are also two solariums and a massage room.
His years of owning the house even benefited Mangano professionally. Its many closets have prompted iterations of its velvet Huggable hangers, which keep clothes from falling off, according to the Journal. And that great kitchen inspired a collaboration with chef Todd English for ceramic nonstick cookware.
The domain listing comes in a downsizing effort. Mangano, CEO of the ‘CleanBoss’ product line and executive producer of ‘America’s Big Deal’ on the USA Network, is originally from Long Island – and was able to spend time with her children and grandchildren at the property in early . She doesn’t know where she will end up after a sale.
Elliott added that there was an appetite among potential buyers to live on Long Island.
“Prices on Long Island climbed last month as sales and prices were affected by a continued lack of supply amid high demand,” he told the Post.
