Kourtney and Travis face backlash for ‘disrespectful’ Catholic wedding

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker are called out to “poke fun” at Catholicism with their lavish Italian wedding ceremony.

While saying ‘yes’ on Sunday, the reality star wore a white Dolce & Gabbana mini dress with a dramatic veil, which was adorned with the image of the Virgin Mary – a nod to a tattoo that her new husband inked on top of his head.

While Barker, 46, has spoken publicly about his ties to the Catholic faith, it’s unclear if Kardashian, 43, is a member of the church. However, the Poosh founder has shared many faith texts, quotes and Bible passages via her Instagram Stories over the years.

“A little weird that Kourtney [sic] marriage is like this Catholic “aesthetic” like the Virgin Mary on her wedding dress and veil??” one person wrote on Twitter.

A second added: “I really feel like Travis and Kourtney [sic] marriage mocks the Catholic religion? They don’t symbolize religious people at all, it just looks like mockery. I’m not Catholic, but that just doesn’t suit me.

One person even said they were “offended” by Kardashian’s short dress.

“I’m just going to say it bluntly. Kourtney Kardashian’s use of the Blessed Mother in her outfit(s) during her wedding weekend was extremely offensive to me as a Catholic…I have a right to feel offended by this,” they wrote. on Twitter.

Barker, for his part, previously told Vice that he was raised a Catholic.

“I got the Virgin Mary tattooed on my foreman when I was 18, 19. And I was raised Catholic,” he said in a November 2015 interview.

“I definitely pray; I believe in god. I really think I’ve been blessed… So I’m not in church every day and I don’t impose religion on people. But I believe in God and I pray and my children pray.

Kardashian also donned a black mini dress with the image of the Virgin Mary.
Kardashian also wore a dress adorned with the Virgin Mary before her nuptials.

The couple also faced backlash for allegedly allowing their nuptials to give controversial fashion house Dolce & Gabbana ‘free publicity’.

“I love Kourtney and Travis, but Dolce and Gabbana dressing the whole family for the wedding, that’s not it,” one person shared, referring to the fact that the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan was decked out in looks from the Italian brand.

Another added: “Dolce & Gabbana tried to revive their brand for body shaming and racist comments. This display is therefore a real boon for the KarJenners and a real media stunt for D&G.
