Fourth trimester


Stanford scored on a 7-yard touchdown from Brycen Tremayne, but the Cardinals had bad luck on the point attempt afterwards as a bad snap led to a missed conversion.

That leaves a two-point game on the Cardinal’s second missed PAT of the night. BYU 35, Stanford 26.

Can BYU hang on?


Stanford steps onto the board for the first time in the second half, going for 75 yards in eight plays before Ashton Daniels scores on a 1-yard run.

The Cardinal added a two=point conversion to make it a 15-point game. BYU 35, Stanford 20.


That should wrap it up — BYU’s Puka Nacua scored on a 25-yard backhand at third-and-4, giving the Cougars their biggest lead. BYU 35, Stanford 12.

BYU kept the ball on the ground in Jacob Conover’s first practice after Jaren Hall was injured.

Third quarter


Jacob Conover is quarterbacking for BYU after Jaren Hall left the game hampered at the end of the Cougars’ last practice.

Hall was stopped short of a first down on a fourth attempt when BYU was deep in Stanford territory.

Stanford added three points on the final play of the half, as Joshua Karty connected on a field goal from 54 yards to send the game into halftime. BYU 28, Stanford 12.

The Cardinal converted a fourth and 4 to set up the basket.


Isaac Rex caught his second touchdown pass, this one from one yard on third-and-goal, and BYU had four touchdowns on four possessions. BYU 28, Stanford 9.

Stanford appeared to have a goal line inside the 5, but the Cardinal was called offside on a third attempt the game before the score.


The Cardinal has his first touchdown, scoring on a 1-yard run from Mitch Leigber to cut Cougar’s lead. The extra point was missed, however. BYU 21, Stanford 9.

Stanford used a fourth and 5 conversions to kick off the 75-yard drive on a play that netted the Cardinal 22 yards and propelled them deep into BYU territory.


BYU got into their bag of tricks for a touchdown pass, as Jaren Hall capped a flea flicker with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Rex. BYU 21, Stanford 3.

The Cougars have 221 total rushing yards to make it a three-point game.

BYU has two possessions and two touchdowns — Hinckley Ropati rumbled 43 yards for a touchdown, capping the Cougars’ second straight 75-yard drive. BYU 14, Stanford 3.

Stanford responded to BYU’s first score with one of its own, going for 49 yards and scoring on a Joshua Karty 34-yard field goal. BYU 7, Stanford 3.
