Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford to star in ‘Yellowstone’ prequel ‘1932’

Paramount+ is going big for its Yellowstone prequel series, 1932.

Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford have been cast in the Yellowstone origin story of creator Taylor Sheridan. The series will air exclusively on Paramount+ and debut on a date to be determined in December.

Picked up straight to series in February, 1932 introduces a new generation of the Dutton family and will explore the early 1920sand century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression afflict the mountain to the west and the Duttons who inhabit it.

Character details for the roles Mirren and Ford will play are being kept under wraps.

The casting marks a massive turning point for Paramount+ and comes ahead of parent company Paramount Global’s Wednesday presentation to Madison Avenue ad buyers. 1932 arrives like Sheridan Yellowstone became a massive and sprawling blockbuster franchise, though the flagship series airs exclusively on NBCUniversal-backed Peacock under a licensing deal struck before CBS All Access was rebranded as Paramount+ as ViacomCBS expanded the platform. -form to include content from across its portfolio. Yellowstone still debuts on the Paramount Network backed by Paramount Global.

Since expanding the service, Paramount+ has quickly stepped up its so-called Sheridan-verse with Yellowstone prequel 1883 (with Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill); and fallout 6666 (still in development). Other shows not part of Dutton’s world include the Billy Bob Thornton-led drama earth man; directed by David Oyelowo Bass Reeves (also in development); Sylvester Stalone starring king of tulsa; Zoe Saldana’s facade Lioness; and the Jeremy Renner vehicle Mayor of Kingstown.

All Sheridan shows except the flagship Yellowstone, stream on Paramount+ as the platform continues to be the media company’s highest priority. Sheridan is on his second nine-figure overall contract with Paramount Global.

1932 is produced in-house by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions. Executive producers include Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari and Ben Richardson.

Mirren’s credits include Main suspect and HBO Catherine the Great miniseries. The actress won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in the 2007 film The Queen and won Primetime Emmys for his work in Prime Suspect, The Passion of Ayn Rand and Elizabeth I. It is replaced by CAA.

Ford, meanwhile, recently signed on to star in the Apple comedy series Contraction from Ted Lassoby Bill Lawrence, Goldstein and Jason Segel (who also stars in the series). The part is the star wars and IndianaJones favorite current television series debut role in a comedy. 1932 will become the first regular part of Ford’s drama series. The actor has a number of guest roles on television series in the 1960s and 1970s. He recently completed filming for Indiana Jones 5 and starred in the 2020 adaptation of The Call of the Wild. Ford is replaced by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham.
