LANDING! The Giants take a 17-14 lead in the third quarter.
Half time: The Giants went to halftime with a 10-7 lead. Taking over from Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor went 13 of 21 for 129 yards and a 7-yard touchdown pass to Richie James.
First quarter: The trail of the Giants, 7-3. Daniel Jones is 6 of 10 for 69 yards. Saquon Barkley has four carries for 13 yards and one reception for six yards.
Shane Lemieux (TOE) will not return. On the show, we’re told the Giants had hoped to let Lemieux play a center later.
It doesn’t look like Shane Lemieux has a terrible injury. But, you don’t want injuries in a game like this.

The Giants DE Leonard Williams will not play in the preseason opener against the Patriots tonight, according to the source.

The New York Giants open their preseason Thursday night (7 p.m. ET / NFL Network and NBC-4), marking the debut of Brian Daboll as the team’s head coach.
Use this post as a discussion thread and follow live updates throughout the game.
See old friends
Daboll’s debut comes against Bill Belichick, a mentor and former employer, and friend and for Giants head coach Joe Judge, whom Daboll replaced. He doesn’t get sentimental.
“I haven’t thought of that yet. I’m so focused on trying to do things right every day. Obviously it is [Belichick is] one of my mentors, but I didn’t sit there and I was like, ‘Oh, this is the first game,'” Daboll said. “I know my wife and kids are going to try to get into it. But he coached what, 750 games? This is the first pre-season game for me. I just try to do well with my team. Don’t really worry about me.
The fact that Judge is on the other side as a coach and offensive assistant for New England quarterbacks might be a little awkward for some of the guys on the roster who have played for him the past two years. Again, this is not something Daboll is concerned about.
“I didn’t even mention it. You’ve been in this league long enough where I coached against friends, players, coaches. It’s kind of like getting used to it, you know? Daboll said. “To be in the league as long as I have been, I know 10 other guys on this staff, I worked with four of them, or I was at this place last year and I go to this place. It’s just kind of the nature of the NFL.
Starters vs Backups
Daboll said all healthy Giants starters will play.
“I think it’s important to play football: to have live representatives. How many reps it will be, I can’t tell you right now,” Daboll said. “I think it will be less for some and more for others, and every game will have a plan. I expect all of our guys to play on Thursday.
That won’t be the case for the Patriots, who aren’t expected to play starters.
QB Mac Jones and most Patriots starters shouldn’t play in tonight’s preseason opener, sources tell me and @DanGrazianoESPN.
Joint practices against the Panthers next week, then the Raiders the following week.
